- Read the custody status and the latest event together. “Released” refers to departure from the named reporting agency.
- If the event says released or out of custody, contact that agency to distinguish community release, transfer, escape, death, or another custody-ending event.
- If no result appears, contact MOVANS support and the Sheriff because the local jail feed may be offline.

MOVANS content depends on the agency feed and the live interface. The researched field inventory supports identity, reporting agency, custody status, location or agency, offender identifiers, and custody or court events. It does not support a promise that every New Madrid County record shows a photo, exact release authority, destination, or complete case disposition.

- When an automated call arrives, enter the PIN to confirm receipt. Older official material says retries can continue for at least 24 hours when the PIN is not entered.

New Madrid MOVANS Registration Changed
Missouri changed its local-jail notification workflow in May 2026. The DPS conversion notice says all existing and new local-jail users must create a new registration at the state MOVANS portal. Prior registration by telephone or through an older app does not automatically carry forward. This is more than a routine login change. A person who assumes an old alert remains active may miss a later custody event. Reopen the correct person’s record, confirm the reporting agency, and save the new registration confirmation. When New Madrid MOVANS Is Offline
The May 2026 DPS notice gives an unusually important local warning: a failed search can mean the jail is offline. A blank result is therefore not proof of release. It also does not prove that the person was never booked. Feed timing, identity variation, a transfer, or an agency outage can all affect the result.
Do not infer release from no result. Call MOVANS support about the feed, then call the New Madrid County Sheriff at 573-748-2516 to ask whether the person remains in that jail or left through a release or transfer event.

Apps Not Affiliated With MOVANS
DPS expressly states that MobilePatrol and Missouri Sheriff Connect are not affiliated with MOVANS. New Madrid County research also found no verified Sheriff mobile app or official public release feed. A private app result should not be presented as the state notification record or as proof of current custody.
Use the domain and reporting agency to identify the source. The current official local-jail route is movans.dps.mo.gov. The Sheriff’s own public channel may contain selected announcements, but it is not a systematic roster. When two sources conflict, the office that created the custody event should clarify the record.
Confirm a New Madrid Release
A MOVANS “released” event confirms departure from the reporting agency, not freedom from all custody. Ask the agency for the event type, date and time, release authority, and receiving destination when public.
